About Hingham Housing Authority

We are located at 30 Thaxter Street in Hingham, the former home of the West Elementary School. In 1971 the state purchased the property for $1 and in 1974 the first phase of the development was built. Housing and buildings consisted of 6 units of congregate housing and 58 apartments of c.667 housing. The second phase was built in 1990 which produced 20 more units of c.667 and 8 units of c. 705 family housing. Additional, a single family house was built on Beal Street in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, under c. 689, housing up to 16 individuals supported by programs administered by the Department.
